1000 Miglia Autonomous Drive

The project arises from the collaboration between the Politecnico di Milano, A2A, and Movyon with the aim of experimenting and enhancing autonomous driving on public roads, in real and highly complex contexts. The initiative aims to revolutionize the concept of urban and extra-urban mobility by transforming production vehicles into autonomous driving vehicles and validating them in different scenarios for environmental, infrastructural, and traffic conditions.

The project takes shape along the iconic route of the 1000 Miglia, which represents a unique laboratory to test technologies in situations that cannot be replicated in controlled environments. After the success of the 2023 edition, which was completed entirely in autonomous mode, the project continues in 2024 with new experiments on the latest generation electric vehicles like the Maserati GranCabrio Folgore. At the same time, 1000 MAD pushes the boundaries of research by conducting, for the first time on public roads closed to traffic, high-speed tests with Maserati MC20 and MC20 Cielo, including contexts like highway stretches and the climb of Val Camonica.

Alongside high-performance tests, the project explores urban low-speed applications through the use of an autonomous Fiat 500e, designed as support for Mobility as a Service offerings. The vehicle is capable of autonomously moving towards users, recharging itself, and redistributing based on demand. In addition to scientific objectives, 1000 MAD integrates communication activities, events, and visual storytelling to promote understanding, acceptance, and dissemination of autonomous driving, making innovation accessible and engaging for the general public.
