Diagnostic train, Hydrogen-fueled for INspection And functional verification during Motion of the rail transport Infrastructures and quality Control

The DHINAMIC project aims to develop an innovative diagnostic train powered by hybrid electric/hydrogen propulsion, designed as a true mobile laboratory for the inspection and continuous verification of railway infrastructures. The initiative aims to combine environmental sustainability, transport safety, and technological innovation, integrating advanced monitoring systems, artificial intelligence, and predictive simulation methodologies.

The diagnostic vehicle will be tested on dedicated railway lines and will support the evaluation of the traction system's performance under real operational conditions, simulating variable loads and dynamic scenarios. To support the mobile laboratory, the project foresees the creation of three specialized fixed laboratories: one dedicated to the qualification of the hydrogen-powered hybrid propulsion system using P-HIL technologies; one for the calibration and verification of measurement systems and video-inspection tools for the infrastructures; and one for metrologically traceable calibration of the measurement systems for the geometry of the railway track.

Thanks to the use of artificial intelligence algorithms, trained on known infrastructure data, the project will allow predicting the behavior of components and infrastructural defects under various operational conditions, supporting predictive maintenance and optimizing safety. The modularity and versatility of the vehicle's design and the software/hardware systems will guarantee reduced times and costs while promoting the adoption of green solutions in the railway sector.

Thus, DHINAMIC represents a significant advancement for sustainable mobility and railway diagnostics, laying the groundwork for new standards of safety, efficiency, and intelligent monitoring of infrastructures, with a concrete impact on reducing emissions and optimizing maintenance of railway lines.
