Ecosystem of connected laboratories, centres and parks for bike and e-bike modeling, prototyping, testing and experiencing
The project aims to create a national network of advanced laboratories dedicated to research, development, and experimentation of innovative solutions for bicycles and e-bikes. The infrastructure, distributed across four interconnected Italian sites via cloud, is designed as an open ecosystem to model, prototype, test, and validate new technologies, with particular attention to decarbonization, digitalization, citizen services, and technology transfer to industry.
The involved laboratories cover the entire innovation chain: from the simulation and modeling of driving behaviors and safety, to testing on tracks and in real contexts, up to the development of prototypes and pre-industrial series. The laboratory of the Polytechnic University of Bari focuses on driving simulators, digital twins, and analysis of safe driving styles in micromobility. The site in Bergamo integrates a sensorized bike park with a biomechanical laboratory to study performance, comfort, and interaction between the vehicle and the user. In Brescia, the infrastructure combines a laboratory for innovative and low-impact charging systems with the first urban smart bike park, conceived as a living lab and experimental space. In Matera, the industrial center produces prototypes and advanced production solutions, particularly for intelligent and long-lasting battery packs for e-bikes.
The network of laboratories will serve as a national reference point for the world of two wheels, generating new products, open data, digital models, testing methodologies, and tools for planning urban and multimodal mobility. In addition to technological innovation, the project also promotes social innovation, encouraging more sustainable, safe, and accessible mobility and strengthening the competitiveness of the Italian industrial system in the bicycle and e-bike sector.
