Fleets Urban Living Lab ROAD

The FULLROAD project aims to create the first Italian Living Lab dedicated to fleets of connected and autonomous vehicles (Connected and Autonomous Vehicles – CAV), for the experimentation of advanced fleet management solutions and new smart mobility services in urban and rural contexts. The initiative arises in response to the rapid growth of the fleet management market and the need to improve operational efficiency, safety, and environmental sustainability.

The Living Lab will integrate real and digital environments. In the urban area, the site of Rome Advanced District will be equipped with smart infrastructures and smart traffic systems to allow the experimentation of CAV in complex city scenarios. In the rural area, an agrivoltaic site in Viggiano will host autonomous and electric agricultural vehicles and robots, powered by renewable energy, for cultivation and monitoring activities, contributing to the decarbonization of mobility and agriculture.

The project also includes the retrofit of on-road and off-road vehicles to create a CAV fleet, the development and testing of drone swarms, a control room for monitoring activities, and advanced simulation environments to accelerate development processes while reducing the environmental impact of tests.

Thanks to the integration of real urban contexts, autonomous mobility, agrivoltaics, and digital systems, FULLROAD aims to be a national reference infrastructure for the experimentation of autonomous fleets, contributing to the goals of sustainability, innovation, and competitiveness of the National Center for Sustainable Mobility MOST.
