Promoting TOURism and sustainability in cycling at GIRO-E

The TOUR-E project takes advantage of the opportunity offered by the Giro-E to promote MOST, Spoke 5, and the use of e-bikes on a national scale, combining innovative technologies, communication, tourism, and sustainable behaviors. The initiative is divided into four main activities: the "green village" pre-race, the establishment of sustainable charging stations, the development of new e-bike prototypes, and the organization of workshops with local entities and ANCI.

The green village offers the public an exhibition of cycling technologies, local tourist routes, and tools to assess the health and performance of cyclists, fostering scientific culture and promoting cycle tourism. The charging stations, both mobile and fixed, utilize clean energy and collect data for the creation of open datasets intended for the scientific community, improving connectivity, portability, and energy efficiency.

The new e-bike prototypes include independent electric motor systems for each leg, performance monitoring tools, and data collection on driving style, to develop innovative algorithms for safety, health, and route optimization. The workshops and training activities raise awareness of the cultural, ethical, and environmental value of light mobility, promoting the planning of cycling routes and the development of cycle tourism, with particular attention to young foreign tourists and middle-aged Italian visitors.

Tour-E aims to spread sustainable mobility in a simple, inclusive, and engaging way, using traditional and innovative media, interactive experiments, and outreach activities. Thanks to the integration of technologies, science, tourism, and behaviors, the project encourages the adoption of e-bikes as a healthy, functional, fun, and ecological choice, contributing to the development of new markets and the national visibility of Giro-E and the MOST initiatives.
