Optimized structures with additive for the production of continuous carbon fibers
The FibreOptics project aims to promote the use of CF4 (Continuous Fiber Fused Filament Fabrication) technology for the automotive industry. The main objective of the project is to produce carbon fiber reinforced plastic (CFRP) with optimized fiber orientation to improve structural performance and feasibility.
The initiative has addressed several challenges, including the development of specialized design methods for optimized fiber deposition and understanding the relationship between process parameters and mechanical performance, particularly regarding fatigue behavior.
The activities undertaken included defining load situations and design constraints, process optimization, developing user-friendly optimization software, producing components via CF4, and validating through testing and structural health monitoring.
The impact on the automotive industry is significant, as the project demonstrates the potential of CF4 technology to produce lighter and more efficient structures with fewer components, resulting in reduced CO2 emissions.
This technological advancement has wide customization capabilities, improves production efficiency, and promotes sustainability, thus driving innovation in the industry.
