System for collecting, processing, and sending data from tyre sensors
The Smart Tire is one of the most emerging technologies in the automotive sector in recent years. Its unique and favorable point of contact with the ground is pushing major tyre manufacturers to develop various applications in different scenarios, such as ADAS and tyre monitoring. In recent years, road surface monitoring has become one of the most promising applications for this technology.
Pirelli, in collaboration with the Politecnico di Milano, is one of the most active players with its cutting-edge CyberTM Tyre technology. One of the most crucial aspects for implementing the illustrated use cases is the data collection and telematics system. The goal of this activity is to develop a system to collect, process, and transmit the data acquired from the sensors installed in the vehicle, with special attention to the smart tyre sensors.
The system is capable of collecting real-time data sent wirelessly from the sensors, performing a first level of processing, accurately locating the information, and transmitting the data to the cloud for final analysis and storage. Thanks to the installation of sensors in the tyres and the system developed in the project, vehicles equipped with these technologies themselves become “Mobility Sensors,” capable of generating data related to tyre-road interaction and road conditions.
