SOFTWARE FOR SMART MOBILITY
Developed within the framework of the National Center for Sustainable Mobility (MOST), the SMILE project has led to the creation of ParkSense: an intelligent system designed to make electric vehicle (EV) charging stations smarter, safer, and more efficient. By integrating cameras, sensors, and artificial intelligence, ParkSense can detect the presence of vehicles, recognize license plates, monitor environmental conditions, and communicate in real-time with cloud platforms, while also adopting a data minimization approach aimed at reducing personal data exposure.
Field tested at A2A's City Plug infrastructure, the system allows for automatic monitoring of parking spaces, improves service accessibility, and helps reduce misuse or prolonged stays at charging stations. Thanks to its modular and low-cost design, ParkSense can be scaled in complex urban contexts, providing real-time data that enhances the charging experience for end users, increases parking space availability, and supports more efficient mobility flows in cities with a high prevalence of electric vehicles.
The project demonstrates how advanced technologies can be applied to everyday infrastructure to improve urban quality of life and accelerate the transition to clean mobility.
