The Ultimate Sharing Service
The Ultimate Sharing Service (TUSS), a collaborative initiative between the University of Florence and the Italian State Railways, has successfully demonstrated an innovative transport service in Sesto Fiorentino. This service integrates car-sharing and car-pooling to improve last-mile connectivity to and from train stations. Funded with about half a million euros, the project aimed to assess its feasibility and acceptance among the local population.
In 34 working days, TUSS completed over 300 trips, showing high user satisfaction and a strong propensity for ride-sharing. The service received positive feedback on the proposed fare structure, highlighting its scalability potential in other metropolitan areas.
Key results include a significant reduction in individual car usage, contributing to decreased traffic and carbon emissions. Additionally, the service facilitated greater access to public transportation, promoting sustainable urban mobility. The success of TUSS highlights the importance of collaboration in developing innovative solutions to urban transport challenges, serving as a model for future initiatives aimed at creating efficient, eco-friendly, and user-oriented transport services.
