
C-ITS messages for the harmonized management of activities and operations
This project implements an intelligent and remote road monitoring system that collects data from the smart tires of a connected vehicle and integrates it into a real-time visual dashboard using vehicle-to-everything communication systems ITS-G5 and 5G.
Specifically, Pirelli's Smart Tyre system is integrated via CAN BUS with Movyon's On-Board Unit, which collects intelligent tire data, namely: deformation, pressure, aquaplaning, temperature, voltage, and proximity. After collection, the data is formatted according to a specific encoding scheme and transmitted using Geo-Networking protocol over an ITS-G5 link to a remote Movyon Road-Side Unit (RSU). After receiving the data, the RSU sends it to a nearby server using Websocket over an Ethernet connection. This server hosts the remote monitoring application, which displays both real-time collected data and historical data in graphs.
After collection, the application sends the data to another remote application server using Websocket over a 5G link, implemented with Software Defined Radio.
Moreover, a dedicated study was conducted on cybersecurity threats to assess the robustness of the system's security and identify the next steps for data protection.
The integrated system demonstrates the feasibility of implementing advanced value-added services with the selected market-ready technologies.
