Compact Versatile Testing Rig for Elastomers

The TESTOR project focuses on the design and development of an innovative tensile-torsion testing machine, capable of performing advanced mechanical characterization of elastomers and other materials under multi-axial loading conditions. Traditional devices often fail to replicate the complex stress states present in real-world applications.

TESTOR bridges this gap by allowing the simultaneous and independent application of axial and torsional loads, unlimited torsional rotation, and free axial expansion/contraction to ensure pure torsion during deformation. It also supports high-frequency load reversals thanks to a zero-backlash solution.

Aligned with the objectives of Spoke 2 of the Italian PNRR, the project addresses both research and industrial needs. A key feature is the use of open architecture and non-proprietary industrial components, to ensure long-term durability, easy maintenance, and future scalability. The design, construction, and validation of the prototype meet industrial accuracy standards, enhancing material testing practices and supporting more conscious development.

Thanks to the integration of advanced control and monitoring systems, TESTOR represents a versatile and robust platform for complex multi-axial testing.
